I’m walking 80K this February to raise much needed funds for Women’s Aid.

Across Ireland one in three women live with suffocating abuse from someone they once loved; someone they once trusted. Every 5 minutes, someone reaches out to Women’s Aid for information and support.

Your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate a lot or a little, anything helps. I hope you can support me by donating whatever you can. By supporting Women’s Aid you can change lives, and save lives.

Simply click the Donate button. All donations are processed securely. You can also share my page using Share options below. This is a great way to show your support.

Thanks so much for your support, it will bring hope, healing and the possibility of a brighter future for women and children.

Day 26: Lessons learned 📖

Friday 27th Feb
A bit of a low energy walk today for us  after the high of hitting the target yesterday 🪫
Have been reflecting on some of what I have learned from this challenge:
💻 Working from home really reduces step count - more effort required!
🥰 Am not a fan of walking but it’s definitely better with company
👊 Being challenged makes me push beyond my comfort zone and brings out my tenacity
📖 Journalling is a healthy exercise for the mind, especially documenting successes

Day 25: Target achieved 🥳

Wednesday 25th Feb
Am delighted that I have made it over the 80k target today 🥳. A combination of parking a bit away from the office 🚗 to walk 🚶🏻‍♀️‍➡️ and our usual evening walk 🌳 around Nutgrove Park (without rain I might add for good measure). Very pleased and grateful 🙏 It’s not the end of February so I’m not stopping!

Day 24: Being pensive 🤔

Tuesday 24th Feb
Great to be able to say no rain today 😅 So the usual evening walk was much more pleasant for us…not even a hat needed! Was thinking today 🦉 how lethargic working from home has made me. Only moving from the living room to the kitchen and not much further…my step count was  💤 This last month I had to make myself go out and walk to achieve the target…even then clocking up 5k or 6k steps takes effort. Big difference in a day in the office or out and about - walking much more steps . Big note to self to keep being more active 🚶🏻‍♀️‍➡️once this challenge is over 👊

Day 23: Target in sight 🎯

Monday 23rd Feb
Delighted to report no rain today 🌈! So the usual evening stroll with Tony was the order of the day. Followed by a strong focus on abs at Pilates 🧘‍♂️ 😬 …getting off the sofa could be tough tomorrow! Up to 75k - target within touching distance 👉

Day 22: Tails wagging

Sunday 22nd Feb
Back to Tymon Park with Basil 🐾 today - who took great pleasure in running through the muddiest parts and dancing through puddles 💦 The car is in need of quite a clean up 🧽 as a result. But a very enjoyable walk with much tail wagging…both of us 🐕

Day 21: Rained away

Sunday 22nd Feb
After earl morning Pilates 🧘‍♀️ there was only time for a short walk today between the rain and the rugby 🏉. But we beat England so well worth watching that ☘️ Had hoped for a second walk but the rain meant it was too miserable ☔️

Day 20: Keep walking

Friday 20th Feb
We actually had some sun today ☀️ briefly…followed by torrential rain ☔️ But by walking time it was all cleared. Still a fine nip in the wind. But walk we did 🙌

Day 19: Keep clocking

Friday 20th Feb
A bit of a dragged out walk this evening in a wind with a bitter bite. Poor Tony just wanted to get home for the darts 🎯 However a few more k clocked up!

Day 18: Shop til you drop 🛍️

Wednesday 18th Feb
The day kicked off with a shopping trip with Helen Rose 🩷 ahead of a certain BIG birthday 🔞 Plenty of steps taken around Liffey Valley 🛍️ In the afternoon a trot around the block with Tony in the rain ☔️ added a few more 👍 Happy to see I have passed the 60k mark 🥳

Day 17: Delayed Pancakes 🥞

Tuesday 17th Feb
We had a scheduled power ⚡️ outage today from 8am-8pm 😩 Up early for showers and tea ☕️ Very cold house all day 🥶 - not helped by someone leaving the bathroom window open all day 🙄 However dragged ourselves out for a short walk and now looking forward to our delayed pancakes 🥞 for Shrove Tuesday!

Day 16: Eye watering 🥺

Tuesday 17th Feb
The sun ☀️ came out in Dublin today and there was no rain ☔️. However the wind still has a bite to it and it’s Monday. So a circuit of Nutgrove Park with watery eyes was as much as we managed!

Day 15:See sea change 🌊

Sunday 15th Feb
Today Tony and I went to Dun Laoghaire to see what we could see see see. And that what we could see see see was a calm and chilly sea sea sea 🌊  Not too many walking the pier and even fewer over by the baths 🥶😬 Roger Casement was standing tall on his lonesome 🗽

Day 14: Ticknock knock

Saturday 14th Feb
Valentine’s Day 💝 We went up to Ticknock for our walk today but had to cut it short due to the bitter wind 🥶 More ice the air than love 💙 The evening walk was also short due to rain ☔️ However - I am now half way though the challenge and over half the 80k target achieved 💪

Day 13: Frizzly Fingers

Friday 13th Feb
The rain has finally stopped 🥳 but it is very frizzly 🥶 So we took a brisk walk this evening while it was still light, and before it was too cold, around Nutgrove Park. Should have worn gloves 🧤 It’s definitely time for 🔥 and 🍷

Day 12: The Ryanair 5k

Friday 13th Feb
Flew home from Newcastle ✈️ early this morning. As we got off the flight a young fella turned to his mates and said “Here we go on the Ryanair 5k” 😂 Well it’s not quite 5k from the Ryanair plane out of the airport (spoiler alert ‼️ it’s 3k). But I’m afraid that was the extent of my walking today. Couldn’t face getting wet again. However 3k is 3k 🙌

Day 11: Ha’way to Tyneside

Thursday 12th Feb
A change of scene as Tony, Ryan and I travelled to Newcastle ✈️ . Lots of walking visiting the cathedral ⛪️ , the
castle 🏰,  St James Park where Newcastle play ⚽️. No change to the weather I’m afraid ☔️ . Then in the evening on to the main event Sunderland v Liverpool 🙌 with a welcome win for Liverpool 🥳 No Ha’way the lads for Sunderland today. A tiring but enjoyable day 🥰

Day 10: Low energy

Wednesday 11th Feb
Today was a low energy day. Short walk with Tony around Nutgrove Park. Ankle tender for some reason 😐 Drizzle threatened but held off. However mañana is another day and we are off to Newcastle with Ryan to see Sunderland v Liverpool ⚽️. Early start 😬✈️🫩

Day 9: More drizzle…

Tuesday 10th Feb
Drizzling still today. So just a short walk around Nutgrove Park fitted in before dark and Pilates 🧘‍♀️ Poor old abs got a lot of focus in Pilates 🥴 but at least it wasn’t wet 💦

Day 8: Hooded eyes

Sunday 8th Feb
Back to Tymon Park for today’s walk - hoods up between showers ☔️ - with Tony. He’s much more low maintenance than Basil… no lead…no 🎾…no 💩 bag 🤣! Could do with weather clearing up to get longer walks in…but still making steady progress 😊

Day 7: Muddy balls 🎾 please!

Sunday 8th Feb
My companion for walking today was Basil 🐾 for a muddy walk in Tymon Park. We passed by Sauna 66 🔥 to see their new additions going well. Basil was more interested in chasing 🎾 the ball than just walking which didn’t help my step count 🙄 But we missed the showers and were both wagging our tails on the way home 😂

Day 6: Drizzley frizzly 💦

Friday 6th Feb
Still very wet and drizzley ☔️
meaning my hair is very frizzley ♨️
So just a short hop for me today 🚶🏻‍♀️‍➡️
Much to my complete dismay 😔
Let’s hope this weather will clear 🌥️
So I can move the challenge up a gear 📈

Day 5: A day for ducks 🦆 and darts 🎯

Thursday 5th Feb
Very rainy day today with weather warnings 😬☔️ Managed a short walk around block. Only eejits like us and dog walkers out and about. Now for darts 🎯 rugby 🏉 and maybe a beer 🍻 with a nice fire 🔥

Day 4: Rain break

Wednesday 4th Feb
Thankfully a break in the rain today, so normal service resumed for our usual walk. Still needed hat and scarf!

Day 3: A soft day

Wednesday 4th Feb
A shorter walk today due to miserable wet conditions ☔️. However part of this challenge is to get out on a day like this. So out we (+ Tony) went hats, scarves and coats and miserable wet conditions….and did the short route!

Day 2: Partner in Crime

Monday 2nd Feb
Lovely walk this morning with my partner in crime for this challenge Audrey. A fair nip in the wind so tea and biscuits after were essential!

Day 1: Good start!

Sunday 1st Feb
Very appreciative of the amazing support for this challenge - very generous. Delighted to have already surpassed my targets - so big, big thanks to all who sponsored me. Got off to a good start today with a walk around Nutgrove Park (Pearse Park closed due to floods 😔) with Tony. Then had a little extra walk to visit Dad in Mount Jerome. Lovely sunny day, not too cold with the wind calm enough.

Thank you to my Sponsors
